International Vaults operates South Africa’s first and only private safe deposit vault in South Africa, providing a value added service to all major private clients. International Vaults’ facility is conveniently located at the Gateway Theatre of Shopping, Umhlanga, just minutes from Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.
International Vaults operates a secure safe deposit vault, which is a modern-day fortress, constructed of steel-reinforced concrete, and protected by a sophisticated, multi-tiered security system. It is monitored by highly trained professionals 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

The Vault

With the growing incidence of burglaries and invasions of households and businesses, security measures such as deadlocks, alarms and domestic safes can only provide limited protection.Natural disasters such as fires or floods can cause extensive damage to valuables stored in your home. The same principle applies at your workplace, where fire could destroy irreplaceable valuables or electronic data.

Access and Security
Security Guards
security personnel will welcome you and escort you into the International Bank Vaults reception area, and will also be stationed at the entrance to the vault itself. All security guards are in constant two-way communication with the security control room, situated inside the vault.
   
Closed Circuit Television
The entire facility is monitored by closed circuit television. Our fully trained security personnel monitor electronic surveillance and alarm systems, whilst your valuables are housed within our highly secure concrete and steel vault.
   
Control Room
The security control centre is designed to withstand power failures and maintain two-way radio communication at all times. It also monitors and archives all surveillance records and controls the temperature inside the vault.
   
Fingerprint Scanners
A state of the art hand scanner matches your unique customer code with your hand's biometric profile. A digital image then positively identifies you before you are accompanied into the vault.
   
Seismic Detectors
A seismic alarm detects any and all vibrations within the walls surrounding the vault.
   
Vault
Access to the vault and to safe deposit boxes complies with the highest Vault Security Standards specifications. Our security systems carry SABS Category 5 certification, and the highest Swiss Security rating of UL3.
   
Dual Key System
A dual key system opens International Bank Vaults' safe deposit boxes. We hold the preparatory key, while you have the other. There will be no master key or copies of your key. Should you misplace your key, International Bank Vaults will replace the lock in your presence, at your own cost.
   
Vault Door
The steel outer and inner plates of the vault door are welded together to form a single structure, enclosing a layer of barrier material. This barrier provides secure protection against any conceivable attempt to break in using high speed drills, explosives, forcing tools or torches.
   
Bulletproof Glass
The reception area is surrounded by 57mm bulletproof glass that is able to withstand an attack by an AK47 assault rifle. Entry to the vault is via a bulletproof double-door mantrap.
   
Armed Response
Armed response personnel will be on standby at all times to ensure International Bank Vaults' clients the utmost peace of mind.

Within each safe deposit box there is a self-contained metal bond box that allows for easy access to your possessions. Our safe deposit boxes come in four sizes to satisfy your requirements.

Rental Period and Costs

A minimum rental period of 12 months applies, but special arrangements can be made for shorter rental periods, subject to availability. Rental costs which are available on request, are dependant on the size of the box hired as well as the rental period.

Closed Public Holidays

A dual-key system opens the safe deposit boxes . International Bank Vaults holds the preparatory key, and the customer has the other. Each customer has an exclusive key for their locker for which there are no spare keys available. In the unlikely event of a customer misplacing a key, Chubb safe company will replace the lock in the presence of the customer at the customer's expense.

Your privacy is paramount. What you store in your safe deposit box is your business - and yours alone.

International Bank Vaults ranks the privacy of its clients equally with security in terms of importance. Only you or a person nominated by you can open your safe deposit box in a convenient booth.
Nobody, other than registered and authorised safe deposit box customers, can access the facility.

Renting a safe deposit box from us is simple, quick and unobtrusive. This confidential service is designed to ensure maximum privacy. Box access is free once your identity has been verified, using manual and electronic means. However, visits to your box are limited to 8 visits per calendar month on standard contract terms.

Insurance and Legal

Should you require insurance to cover the contents of the safe deposit box, we will be pleased to arrange it, provided that the items are disclosed and a valuation certificate is provided. The insurance premiums will however be borne by the customer.

(It is recommended that your possessions be independently and adequately insured under your household cover with your own insurance broker.)

When you apply to rent a safe deposit box you can appoint a nominee, who may be a spouse or attorney for example, who will have the same level of authority as yourself.

In the event of death, your assets, including the contents of your safe deposit box, will be frozen until an executor has been appointed by the Master of the High Court to attend to the winding up of your estate. Once your executor has the appropriate authority, he/she can access the vault once International Vaults has been provided with that authority. You are able to bequeath the contents of your safe deposit box to beneficiaries in your will.

When applying to rent a safe deposit box, you will be required to provide International Vaults with certain identifying documentation and information and will be required to sign a comprehensive lease agreement. Should you require insurance to cover the contents of the safe deposit box, we will be pleased to arrange it, provided that the items are disclosed and a valuation certificate is provided. The insurance premiums will however be borne by the customer.
